SYMPTOMS

You install the October 2008 Cumulative Update for Windows Media Center for Windows Vista (955519) on a Media Center system that has digital cable card tuners installed. When you perform back-to-back recordings, the first recorded TV show plays back correctly. However, the second recorded TV show plays back only audio.

Known issues

This update addresses recording and playback issues for Media Center for Windows Vista. If you watch the TV shows that are recorded from digital cable card tuners on Media Center extenders, you may still experience some playback issues in which there is audio but no video.

Recommended configurations

There are many possible TV Tuner configurations for Media Center. The following are configurations that may be affected by the issue that is discussed in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 955519. Additionally, recommendations are provided.

Use Windows Media Center-based computer for recorded TV playback without extenders

Windows Media Center with only digital cable card tuners

For this configuration, we recommend that you install both update 955519 and 959485.
Windows Media Center with digital cable card tuner and other digital tuners (not digital cable card) or analog tuners

For this configuration, we recommend that you install both update 955519 and 959485.
Windows Media Center with other digital tuners (not digital cable card) or analog tuners

For this configuration, we recommend that you install update 955519. You do not have to install 959485.

Use extenders together with Windows Media Center for recorded TV playback

Windows Media Center together with only digital cable card tuners

For this configuration, we recommend that you uninstall update 955519 and that you not install update 959485.
