Symptom

After you upgrade the Softgrid client to App-V 4.5 CU1, applications deployed in Softgrid using the MSI stand-alone utility are still installed and will still run correctly.. However, when you try to uninstall through Add or Remove Programs, the uninstallation fails and you may receive an error similar to the following:

Could not access network location \MSIUtility\{GUID}

The application can still be deleted through the management console or via the SFTMIME command but the entry will remain in the Add or Remove Programs window.

Resolution

To resolve this issue use one of the following methods:

Method 1:  Migrate the application packages to 4.5

1.       Remove the packages from the 4.2 client prior to upgrade.

2.       Upgrade the client to App-V 4.5.

3.       Load the package into version 4.5 of the App-V Sequencer. Save the package and include the option for MSI generation.

4.       Re-publish the new packages to the 4.5 client.

Method 2: Use a script with binaries from the 4.2 client:

You can use a script to create a workaround to preserve 4.2 packages on 4.5 and allow them to be managed.  This script should copy the msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll files from the 4.2 client into the App-V 4.5 installation directory.

The script will also need to create the following registry keys:

PATH (May need to be manually created)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Softricity\SoftGrid Client\CurrentVersion\Configuration

Value: ClientVersion

Data Type: REG_SZ

Data: 4.2.1.20

Value: GlobalDataDirectory

Data Type: REG_SZ

Data: "C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Documents\\"
