You use Microsoft Exchange Server Inter-Organization Replication (IOREPL) to replicate Free/Busy information in a mixed Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment. In this situation, the Free/Busy replication from an Exchange Server 2003 server to an Exchange Server 2010 server fails. Additionally, you find the following event is logged on the Exchange Server 2010 server:
Log Name: Application
Source: MSExchange Availability
Event ID: 4003
Task Category: Availability Service
Process Microsoft.Exchange.InfoWorker.Common.Delayed`1[System.String]: PublicFolderRequest for 2 mailboxes at EXCHANGE ADMINISTRATIVE GROUP (<xxxx>) failed. The exception returned is Microsoft.Exchange.InfoWorker.Common.Availability.PublicFolderRequestProcessingException: The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.. The request information is http://<servername>/public/?Cmd=freebusy&start........ The Availability service could not successfully retrieve Schedule+ free/busy data for one or more legacy Exchange mailboxes. To find the root cause of this error, increase the diagnostic logging level of the MSExchange Availability service.
This problem occurs because Exchange Server 2010 validation fails on the RPC Client Access
service. The validation fails if the replication item is located in the root folder.
To resolve this problem, install the following update rollup:
Description of Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2010
