INTRODUCTION

Microsoft Expression Media Service Pack 1 (SP1) includes the latest updates to Expression Media for Macintosh computers and for Windows-based computers. This article describes the issues that are fixed in Expression Media Service Pack 1.

Issues that are fixed

Expression Media SP1 fixes the issue that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
937669 Error message when you click a thumbnail image in an HTML gallery that you create by using Expression Media on a Macintosh: "No file exists at the address"
Expression Media SP1 also fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

Expression Media for Windows-based computers

  • Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) files are not displayed in HTML galleries that were created in Expression Media.
  • Custom field annotations and Catalog Set annotations are not saved to a Microsoft Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) namespace or to an iView-multimedia XMP namespace.
  • Custom field annotations and Catalog set annotations are not read back from a Microsoft XMP namespace or from an iView-multimedia XMP namespace if the Microsoft XMP namespace is empty.
  • An access violation occurs when you try to import some Nikon image files that use the raw image file format by using the Media view in Expression Media.
  • Incorrect file names are displayed under images in the Light Table view.
  • Expression Media stops responding on a Windows Vista-based computer if you select many media items when you try to create an XML file.
  • Expression Media stops responding when you try to import a metadata template.
  • The Expression Media catalog cannot be saved on a storage device that has less than 200 megabytes (MB) of free space.
  • Garbled characters are displayed in the Frame rate area of the Info Panel pane in Expression Media.
  • Expression Media stops responding when you fast-forward through a slide show that contains a video file.
  • When you save an HTML gallery that uses a theme, the HTML gallery appears to use a combination of the themes that are used by other HTML galleries that you saved previously in the same folder.

Expression Media for Macintosh computers

  • You cannot use the Catalog Finder in Expression Media to find catalogs that were created on Windows-based computers.
  • Catalogs are not reported correctly in the Recent catalogs area in Expression Media.
  • Media item names that contain extended characters may not be sorted correctly in the List view in Expression Media.
  • The file size does not include the decimal separator (comma) when Expression Media is installed on a Macintosh computer that is configured to use a language other than English.
  • When you try to export an XML file that contains extended characters in Expression Media, you receive the following error message:
    File cannot be found on any mounted volume.
  • GIF images are not displayed in HTML galleries that were created in Expression Media.
  • You cannot use the Import from URL command when Expression Media is behind a firewall.
  • Expression Media stops responding when you visit a URL and then try to drag an image from your browser into Expression Media.
  • Expression Media stops responding when you try to import a Microsoft Office Word document.
  • Custom field annotations and Catalog Set annotations are not saved to a Microsoft XMP namespace or to an iView-multimedia XMP namespace.
  • Custom field annotations and Catalog set annotations are not read back from a Microsoft XMP namespace or from an iView-multimedia XMP namespace if the Microsoft XMP namespace is empty.
  • When you try to play audio files in Expression Media, you receive the following error message in the Media view:
    Rendering Disabled [24]
  • When you import the results of a Spotlight query in Expression Media, the import fails.
  • When you type a URL in the address box in the Import from URL dialog box in Expression Media, the OK button is not available.
  • When you paste a media file into a new catalog, Expression Media stops responding. This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
    • You copy a media file from a catalog.
    • The name of the media file contains international characters.
    • You exit Expression Media.
    • You start Expression Media and then paste the media file into a new catalog.
  • Expression Media stops responding if you try to print a media sheet or a contact sheet when a cell text box contains a 0.
  • Expression Media stops responding when you open an Expression Media Notepad file that does not have a corresponding catalog.
  • The magnifier in the Light Table view only displays a black square.
  • The Expression Media catalog cannot be saved on a storage device that has less than 200 MB of free space.
  • When you save an HTML gallery that uses a theme, the HTML gallery appears to use a combination of the themes that are used by other HTML galleries that you saved previously in the same folder.
