This article contains the steps that are required to install Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on a computer that has Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Preview installed.

Note InfoPath 2003 SP1 Preview cannot be updated to the release version of Office 2003 SP1. If you install Office 2003 SP1 on a computer that has InfoPath 2003 SP1 Preview installed, you receive the error message that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

To install Office 2003 Service Pack 1 on a computer that has InfoPath 2003 SP1 Preview installed, follow these steps.

Note If you already installed Office 2003 Service Pack 1, or if you installed Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 1 and the installation appeared to fail, review the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article before you continue with the steps to install Office 2003 Service Pack 1 on a computer that has InfoPath 2003 SP1 Preview installed:

You cannot install Office 2003 Service Pack 1 when InfoPath 2003 Service Pack 1 Preview is installed

Step 1: Remove InfoPath 2003 SP1 Preview

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Locate and then click Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003.

    Note If you are not sure if you are running InfoPath 2003 SP1 Preview, open the Help About dialog box in Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003 and then verify the version that is listed in the dialog box. If you are running version 11.6250.xxxx, you have InfoPath 2003 SP1 Preview installed.
  4. Click Remove.
  5. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to remove InfoPath 2003 SP1 Preview.

Step 2: Clear the .NET Download Cache

Certain updates in InfoPath 2003 SP1 that are related to the integration of managed code require that you clear the .NET Download Cache to make sure that all the updates that are included in Office 2003 SP1 are included for InfoPath 2003. To clear the .NET Download Cache, use the Gacutil.exe tool.

Note Because the .NET Download Cache is created for each user of a computer, each user must log on the computer and run the Gacutil.exe tool.

The location of the Gacutil.exe tool depends on the configuration of your computer. The following is a list of possible computer configurations and the steps that you must take to run the Gacutil.exe tool based on your configuration.

If Visual Studio .NET 2003 is installed

To clear the .NET Download Cache if Visio Studio.NET 2003 is installed, click Start, click Run, type the following text in the Run box, and then press ENTER
"drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\SDK\v1.1\Bin\gacutil.exe" /cdl
where drive is the drive where Microsoft Windows is installed.

If .NET Framework version 1.0 is installed

To clear the .NET Download Cache if .NET Framework version 1.0 is installed, click Start, click Run, type the following text in the Run box, and then press ENTER
"drive:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\gacutil.exe" /cd1
where drive is the drive where Microsoft Windows is installed.

If you do not have Visual Studio .NET 2003 or .NET Framework version 1.0 installed

If you do not have Visual Studio .NET 2003 or .NET Framework version 1.0 installed, download the .NET Framework 1.1 Software Development Kit from the following Microsoft Web site.

After you have downloaded and installed the .NET Framework 1.1 Software Development Kit, click Start, click Run, type the following text in the Run box, and then press ENTER
"drive:\Program Files\Microsoft.NET\SDK\v1.1\Bin\gacutil.exe" /cd1
where drive is the drive where Microsoft Windows is installed.

Step 3: Reinstall InfoPath 2003

If InfoPath 2003 was installed as part of your Office 2003 installation, run the Microsoft Office 2003 Professional Setup program, and then click to select the InfoPath check box. If InfoPath 2003 was installed from the stand-alone CD-ROM, reinstall InfoPath 2003 by using your stand-alone CD-ROM.

Step 4: Install Office 2003 SP1
