This article describes how to use Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) to deploy definition updates to computers that are running Microsoft Windows Defender.

To use WSUS to deploy Windows Defender definition updates to client computers, follow these steps:

Open the WSUS Administrator console, and then click Options at the top of the console.
Click Synchronization Options.
Under Products and Classifications, click Change under Products.
Verify that the Windows Defender check box is selected, and then click OK.
Under Products and Classifications, click Change under Update Classifications.
Verify that the Definition Updates check box is selected, and then click OK.
Optional Update the automatic approval rule. To do this, follow these steps:
1. At the top of the console, click Options.
2. Click Automatic Approval Options.
3. Make sure that the Automatically approve updates for installation by using the following rule check box is selected.
4. Under Approve for Installation, click Add/Remove Classification.
5. Verify that the Definition Updates check box is selected, and then click OK.
At the top of the console, click Options.
Click Synchronization Options.
On the taskbar on the left, click Synchronize now.
At the top of the console, click Updates.
Approve any Windows Defender updates that WSUS should deploy.

Note You may want to filter the view to find only Windows Defender definitions. To do this, type defender in the Contains box, and then click Apply.
