A warning message is returned from the W32Time service when you run the dcdiag command on Windows Server 2008 against a Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controller

SUMMARY

When you run the dcdiag command on Windows Server 2008 or prior Windows release versions against a remote domain controller server that is running Windows Server 2008 release two (R2), the dcdiag command will return a warning from the Windows Time (W32Time) service that resembles the following message:

Invalid service startup type: w32time on <domain controller name>, current value DEMAND_START, expected value AUTO_START ......................... <domain controller name> failed test Services.

This is an expected behavior as the W32Time service is changed to a manual startup service as default in Windows Server 2008 release two (R2).

MORE INFORMATION

The dcdiag command in the Windows Server 2008 or prior Windows release versions does not reflect this update. However, the dcdiag command in Windows Server 2008 R2 is updated for this behavior change so that there will not be such a warning message from the W32Time service if you run the command on Windows Server 2008 R2.
