SYMPTOMS

When you run a .NET Framework 2.0-based application, the Just-in-Time (JIT) implementation generates incorrect information in the Garbage Collector. Then, the application crashes or throws an unrelated exception. In the exception, the top of the call stack shows the following function:
mscorwks!WKS::gc_heap::mark_object_simple

Notes
  • You can retrieve the information about the call stack by using the Windbg.exe tool.
  • This problem only occurs on x64 platforms.

RESOLUTION

You must have the .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 or the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed to apply this hotfix.

Restart Requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix if no relative instance is in use.
