SUMMARY

This article explains how to enable Popup Notification messages when Windows Millennium Edition (Me) System File Protection (SFP) performs an action.

MORE INFORMATION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To enable SFP popup messages, navigate to the following key in the registry and change the "ShowPopups" DWORD value from "0" to "1":
HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ SystemFileProtection
NOTE: The above registry key is one path, it has been wrapped for readability.

The change will take effect when you restart your computer. To disable the popup messages, set the DWORD value back to 0 and restart your computer.

The default setting for Windows Me SFP Popup Notification is 0 (disabled).

SFP Popup Notification will display messages for:
  • Restoring a protected file.
  • Removing a security catalog.
