SYMPTOMS

The Resource Monitor (Resrcmon.exe) may crash on a Windows Server 2003-based cluster node. In this situation, all resources in the cluster group must be restarted. Additionally, applications that rely on the cluster may not work correctly. Also, the Cluster.log file may contain information that resembles the following:
00001afc.0000121c::Date_Time ERR [RM] Exception. Code = 0xc0000005, Address = 0x77BD8DC8
00001afc.0000121c:: Date_Time ERR [RM] Exception parameters: 1, 17ef7214, 1003f, 0
00001afc.0000121c:: Date_Time INFO [RM] GenerateMemoryDump: Start memory dump to file C:\WINDOWS\Cluster\resrcmon.dmp
This problem may occur if one of the following software packages is installed on the Windows Server 2003-based cluster node:
  • Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2
  • Hotfix 921181

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
