Automatic configuration does not work in Internet Explorer 8Article ID: 973529 - View products that this article applies to. On This PageSymptomsWindows Internet Explorer 8 cannot download and process the automatic configuration script that is specified in the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box. ResolutionNote: This intentional design change was made to combat the below known security threat. Security Threat: If the AutoConfig Branding feature is enabled, the browser will attempt to retrieve and apply branding instructions even when the PC is in an untrusted network environment (e.g. an airport lounge or coffee shop). This could allow an attacker control over the settings controlled by branding. If you wish to re-enable this feature you should use a HTTPS URL for the URL to the configuration script. You should also avoid moving your PC into untrusted network environments.
