RWW Returns Error "There is a problem in Remote Web Workplace. A logon error occurred: The data that the server returned is not valid.."

Symptoms

When attempting to access Outlook Web Access (OWA) or SharePoint through the Small Business Server 2008 Remote Web Workplace (RWW), you may receive the following error:

There is a problem in Remote Web Workplace. A logon error occurred: The data that the server returned is not valid..

To access the external Web applications that Remote Web Workplace uses, log on manually. Contact the person who provides technical support for your network.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

RWW will then display the OWA forms-based authentication page.

Accessing the site internally from the SBS server itself returns the error:

There is a problem in Remote Web Workplace. A logon error occurred: 500-Internal Server Error.

Cause

This error can occur if the WSSG single sign-on entries have been removed from the RWW web.config.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, use these steps:

Make a backup copy of %ProgramFiles%\Windows Small Business Server\Bin\WebApp\Remote\web.config
Open web.config in Notepad and locate the </configuration> tag in web.config.
Immediately above </configuration>, paste the following lines:

<wssg>
    <ssoApplications>
      <ssoApplication application="OutlookWebAccess" serverName="Sites"/>
    </ssoApplications>
</wssg>

Open an elevated command prompt and run iisreset.
