XADM: Exchange 2000 Server Information Store Stops Responding and Event IDs 10002 and 103 Are Logged

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server information store periodically stops responding (hangs) or has very slow performance, and one of the following problems may occur:
  • The following error is logged in the application log on the Exchange 2000 computer:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: DCOM
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 10002
    Date: Date
    Time: Time
    User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
    Computer: ComputerName
    Description: Access denied attempting to launch a DCOM Server.

  • The following error is logged in the application log on the Exchange 2000 computer:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: EXOLEDB
    Event Category: Events
    Event ID: 103
    Date: Date
    Time: Time
    User: N/A
    Computer: ComputerName
    Description: Microsoft Exchange OLEDB was unable to initialize the event binding.

  • You may receive the following error on the Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) client:
    HTTP 500 Error

RESOLUTION

Cumulative Rollup Information

To resolve this problem, obtain the September 2003 Exchange 2000 Server Post-Service Pack 3 (SP3) Rollup. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
