SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You use the Window.Open method to open a child window in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (SP1). The Window.Open method call specifies a window width that is larger than the full width of the screen. In this scenario, the child window may open in the full width of the screen.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

To enable this hotfix, you must modify a registry key. To modify the registry key, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
  4. Type FEATURE_WINDOW_DEFWINDOWPROCSIZING, and then press ENTER.
  5. Right-click FEATURE_WINDOW_DEFWINDOWPROCSIZING, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  6. Type iexplore.exe, and then press ENTER.
  7. In the right pane, right-click iexplore.exe, click Modify, type 0 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
  8. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1.
