Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:

You have a Reporting Services report that contains a tablix data region.

There are merged cells in the tablix data region.
-
You try to export the report in a PDF format.
In this scenario, the export fails, and you receive the following series of error messages:
An error occurred during local report processing.
An error occurred during rendering of the report.
An error occurred during rendering of the report.
Object reference not set to an instance an object.
Additionally, if you check the Reporting Services log file, you find the following errors:

Resolution
The issue was first fixed in the following cumulative update of SQL Server.
Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous cumulative update. Check out the latest cumulative updates for SQL Server:
