This article describes an issue when you use an embedded camera in Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2. The issue is resolved in update rollup 2955164, or in hotfix 2958011 that is described in this article and has a prerequisite.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a computer (such as a Microsoft Surface) that is running Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2.

  • You try to add an account picture by using an embedded camera from the Your account page in the Accounts option in PC settings.

  • You select 0.5 MP (16:9), 2.1 MP (16:9), or 5.0 MP (4:3) from the Photo resolution list in Camera options.

In this scenario, a green bar is displayed along the bottom of the preview picture, and some shadowing artifacts appear around the brightly colored objects.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install update rollup 2955164, or install the hotfix that is described in this article.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

Prerequisites

Registry information

To use the hotfix in this package, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.

Restart requirement

You must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace a previously released hotfix.

The global version of this hotfix installs files that have the attributes that are listed in the following tables.
