Applies To
Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials Windows 8.1 Enterprise Windows 8.1 Pro Windows 8.1 Windows RT 8.1 Windows Server 2012 Datacenter Windows Server 2012 Datacenter Windows Server 2012 Standard Windows Server 2012 Standard Windows Server 2012 Foundation Windows Server 2012 Foundation Windows Server 2012 Essentials Windows 8 Enterprise Windows 8 Pro Windows 8 Windows RT

Symptoms

When you try to print a color XPS file that contains monochrome mode from a Printer Command Language (PCL) 6 version 4 driver-based computer, the gray conversion of the RGB color for the Text, PNG, or Graphic elements are interchanged. Specifically, the red and blue are in incorrect gray tones.
This issue occurs in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8, Windows RT, or Windows Server 2012.

Cause

This issue occurs because the grayscale formula is incorrect in the Msxpspcl6.dll file for PNG, Text and Graphic elements.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the hotfix that is described in this article, or the update rollup (recommended) that contains this hotfix.

Windows version Hotfix Hotfix prerequisite Update rollup Update rollup prerequisite
Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2 Click "Hotfix Download Available" Install Update 2919355 Get update rollup 2995388 Install Update 2919355
Windows 8, Windows RT, or Windows Server 2012 Click "Hotfix Download Available" No prerequisite Get update rollup 2995387 No prerequisite

Note The update rollup fixes many other issues in addition to the issue that the hotfix fixes. We recommend that you use the update rollup. The update rollup is larger than the hotfix. Therefore, the update rollup takes longer to download.
