Replicationapp.exe crashes when FIPS is enabled on a Lync Server 2013-based computer that has .NET Framework installed

Symptoms

When this issue occurs, the following events are logged in Application log for Microsoft Lync Server 2010:
Note FIPS means Federal Information Processing Standard.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install one of the following updates:

• Hotfix rollup 3013369 for the .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2

• Hotfix rollup 3013370 for the .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

• Hotfix rollup 3013372 for the .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012

• Hotfix rollup 3013375 for the .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2

• Hotfix rollup 3013376 for the .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 SP2

This issue occurs because Microsoft .NET Framework uses non-FIPS compliant implementation of Secure Hash Algorithm 1 (SHA1), such as the SHA1Managed Class.
