Symptoms

Assume that you have a large number of databases (for example, 5000) in an instance of SQL Server 2014. In this situation, it takes longer time than expected to expand the Databases folder in Object Explorer in SQL Server 2014 Management Studio (SSMS 2014).

Resolution

The issue was first fixed in the following cumulative update of SQL Server:

Cumulative Update 9 for SQL Server 2014

Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous cumulative update. We recommend that you download and install the latest cumulative updates for SQL Server:
