Summary

Cumulative Update 1 for Microsoft Exchange Server 2016 was released on March 15, 2016. Several nonsecurity issues are fixed in this cumulative update or a later cumulative update for Exchange Server 2016.

Issues that the cumulative update fixes

This cumulative update fixes an issue in which Test-ExchangeSearch or Test-ExchangeSearch -MailboxDatabase doesn't work.

This cumulative update also fixes the issues that are described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles:

Known issues

After you install this update on a computer where the CPU is older than the Nehalem (Intel, 2008) or Barcelona (AMD, 2007) microarchitectures, Exchange Server 2016 search processes will crash. However, this issue will be resolved in Cumulative Update 2 for Exchange Server 2016.

Note: To validate if your computer is affected, run the coreinfo.exe /ACCEPTEULA /F | findstr POPCNT command by using the Coreinfo utility to test.

  • For a CPU that is incompatible with Cumulative Update 1, you will receive the following POPCNT output:
Coreinfo v3.31 - Dump information on system CPU and memory topology
    Copyright (C) 2008-2014 Mark Russinovich
    Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com
    POPCNT - Supports POPCNT instruction

  • For a CPU that is compatible with Cumulative Update 1, the POPCNT output will be displayed as:
Coreinfo v3.31 - Dump information on system CPU and memory topology
    Copyright (C) 2008-2014 Mark Russinovich
    Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com
    POPCNT * Supports POPCNT instruction
