Not sure if this is the right fix? We've added this issue to our memory dump diagnostic which can confirm.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You access some shared files from a computer that is running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • The computer is working under a heavy stress situation.
  • The connection to these shared files is lost. For example, you log off the computer.

In this scenario, the computer may restart unexpectedly. Additionally, you receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:

Note

STOP: 0x0000007F (0x0000008, parameter2 , parameter3 , parameter4 )
UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

Notes

  • The parameters of this Stop error message vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.
  • Not all "0x0000007F" Stop errors are caused by this issue.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Redirected Driver Buffering SubSystem (Rdbss.sys) driver causes an infinite loop that exhausts the stack space of a thread. Therefore, you receive the Stop error message.

To request the hotfix package that applies to one or both operating systems, select the hotfix that is listed under "Windows Vista" on the page. Always refer to the "Applies To" section in articles to determine the actual operating system that each hotfix applies to.
