"Loading this assembly would produce a different grant set from other instances” error message when you run a .NET Framework 2.0-based application on a computer that is running a 64-bit version of Windows

Consider the following scenario:  

• You have a Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0-based application that contains a domain-neutral assembly.
• The assembly is not in the list of domain-neutral assemblies that are compatible with the AppDomain.
• The assembly calls interop methods.
• You run the application on a computer that is running a 64-bit version of Windows.

In this scenario, a System.IO.FileLoadException exception is thrown and you receive the following error message:

This problem occurs because the 64-bit version of common language runtime (CLR) 2.0 uses one Intermediate Language (IL) stub cache in a shared domain.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing.
