Introduction

RESOLUTION

Method 1: Make sure that your system meets the minimum operating system requirements

To install Internet Explorer 9, one of the following operating systems (or later versions) is required.
  • Windows Vista (x86 and x64) with Service Pack 2 (SP 2)
  • Windows 7 (x86 and x64)
  • Windows Server 2008 (x86 and x64) with Service Pack 2 (SP 2)
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 x64
If you are running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 without Service Pack 2, install the latest service pack.

For more information about how to install the latest service pack, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Method 2: Install required software and components

Internet Explorer 9 tries to install software prerequisites automatically. If installation of the prerequisites does not succeed, Internet Explorer 9 does not continue with the installation. In that case, please install the prerequisites manually. In that case, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base and install the required software and components manually. And then go to Internet Explorer Home to install Internet Explorer 9 again.

Method 3: Complete the installation of other updates

Before you try to install Internet Explorer 9, make sure that installation of other updates or a system restart is not pending. To check whether you have any pending installation of updates or a pending restart, complete the following step for your Windows operating system:
  • On Windows 7: Open System and Security in Control Panel, and then click Windows Update.
  • On Windows Vista: Open Security in Control Panel, and then click Windows Update.
If there is an update installation in progress, let the installation finish before you try to install Internet Explorer 9. If updates are installed but a system restart has not yet occurred, restart your computer before you try to install Internet Explorer 9.

Method 4: Temporarily disable antispyware and antivirus software

Warning This workaround may make a computer or a network more vulnerable to attack by malicious users or by malicious software such as viruses. We do not recommend this workaround but are providing this information so that you can implement this workaround at your own discretion. Use this workaround at your own risk.

To temporarily disable antispyware or antivirus software, follow these steps:

  5. Access Windows Update and reinstall the latest updates.

Method 7: Install the correct language pack for Internet Explorer 9

There are known issues when you install Internet Explorer 9 at the same time as Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1). For example, one of the following issues may occur:
  • The installation may fail, and you receive the following Stop error code:
    Error code: 0x800f0902
  • The installation is completed successfully, but Internet Explorer 9 menus are displayed in English even though the language of Internet Explorer that you installed is not English.

To show the progress bar for the installation, click the application bar for the Internet Explorer 9 installer in the taskbar, or minimize the Windows Update dialog box.

To show the progress bar for the installation, do one of the following:
