Symptoms

The Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) repository is corrupted on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista.

In this scenario, some applications or services that take advantage of WMI may stop responding or encounter access violations when the applications or services query the WMI repository.

Cause

This issue occurs because the WMI service incorrectly processes a deletion operation inside the WMI repository.

Note Not all WMI repository corruptions are caused by this issue.
