Not sure if this is the right fix? We've added this issue to our memory dump diagnostic which can confirm.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a computer that is running Windows Server 2008.

  • The computer supports the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) standard.

  • You try to shut down or to restart the computer.

In this scenario, the computer stops responding during the shutdown process. Therefore, you have to perform a forced shutdown of the computer.

Cause

This issue occurs because the two threads that perform the following operations in the Ipmidrv.sys driver encounter a deadlock situation:

  • The usual IPMI driver operation

  • The shutdown callback function of IPMI driver

The deadlock situation may occur in a short time frame in the shutdown process of the Ipmidrv.sys driver.
