"0x0000000A" stop error occurs when several applications access the same network share file by using the MapViewOfFile() API on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You access some network share files on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • Several applications access the same network share files by using the MapViewOfFile() API at the same time.

In this scenario, the system crashes. Additionally, you receive a stop error message that resembles the following message:

Note

STOP: 0x0000000A (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Notes

  • The parameters in this error message vary and depend on the configuration of the computer.
  • Not all "0x0000000A" stop errors are caused by this issue.

      

Cause

This issue occurs because of a problem in the Rdbss.sys driver.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem that is described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
