SYMPTOMS

Be aware that Adapter A and Adapter B are terms that are used to differentiate between two network adapters in the following scenario:
  • Two network adapters on a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based device are connected to a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server.
  • Adapter A and Adapter B obtain DHCP IP addresses from the DHCP server. Then, you disable the network adapters.
  • You manually configure Adapter A to a static IP address that is the same as Adapter B.
  • You enable Adapter A and Adapter B.

In this scenario, Adapter B does not obtain an IP address from the DHCP server. The IP address on Adapter B is all zeros. Then, Adapter B obtains an IP address automatically, such as 169.xx.xx.xx.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the DHCP client in Windows Embedded Compact 7 does not send a DHCPDECLINE message to the DHCP server to restart the configuration process if the IP address is already being used.
