Not sure if this is the right fix? We've added this issue to our memory dump diagnostic which can confirm.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You join a computer to a network. The computer is running one of the following operating systems:

    • Windows Vista

    • Windows Server 2008

    • Windows 7

    • Windows Server 2008 R2

  • The network is configured to use Internet Protocol security (IPsec) network address translation traversal (NAT-T) security.

  • You use IPsec to communicate with another computer in the network.

In this scenario, you randomly receive a Stop error message that resembles the following, and then the computer restarts:

STOP 0x000000C2 (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)

Notes

  • This Stop error describes a BAD_POOL_CALLER issue.

  • The four parameters in this error message vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.

  • Not all "0x000000C2" Stop errors are caused by this issue.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a race condition in the Tcpip.sys driver. The Tcpip.sys driver does not handle the reference count of an object correctly. Therefore, a thread tries to free an object that was already freed by another thread, and the Windows triggers a Stop error.

Resolution

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 file information notes

Important Windows Vista hotfixes and Windows Server 2008 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, only "Windows Vista" is listed on the Hotfix Request page. To request the hotfix package that applies to one or both operating systems, select the hotfix that is listed under "Windows Vista" on the page. Always refer to the "Applies To" section in articles to determine the actual operating system that each hotfix applies to.

  • The files that apply to a specific product, SR_Level (RTM, SPn), and service branch (LDR, GDR) can be identified by examining the file version numbers as shown in the following table.

    Version

    Product

    SR_Level
