Computer crashes when you use Driver Verifier to monitor Storport.sys if you disable the HBA in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • A computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 has a processor that supports the Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) feature.
  • You enable the AVX feature on the computer.
  • You use Driver Verifier to monitor the Microsoft Storport storage driver (Storport.sys).
  • You disable the host bus adapter (HBA) on the computer.
In this scenario, the computer crashes. Additionally, you receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:

STOP: 0x000000C2 (Parameter1, Parameter2, Parameter3, Parameter4)
BAD_POOL_CALLER

Notes
  • Not all "0x000000C2" Stop errors are caused by this issue.
  • The parameters in this Stop error may vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
