FIX: High CPU usage may occur when a VPN connection is closed on a Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3-based device

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3-based device and a network that is running the following servers:

    • A Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) server.
    • A virtual private network (VPN) server. For example, a server that is running Windows Server 2008.
  • You configure both a Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) connection and a VPN connection by using theĀ Network and Dial-up Connections option on your device.

  • You connect your device to the PPPoE server and then to the VPN server.

  • Many malformed commands or packets are sent to the Internet Key Exchange (IKE) port of your device such as by using the HPING3 command from the PPPoE server.

  • You disconnect your device from the VPN server.

In this scenario, your device may experience high CPU usage when the VPN connection is closed.
