Symptoms

Assume that you add the shortcut for a file to the All Apps View in Windows 8, Windows RT or Windows Server 2012.  After you change the file association of the file type, the tile logo image is not updated accordingly in the All Apps View.

Cause

This issue occurs because the All Apps view does not update the appropriate cache correctly.

How to obtain this update

Microsoft Update
If you do not use a mouse, follow these steps:
  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
  2. Type Windows Update in the Search box.
  3. Tap Settings, and then tap Install optional updates.
If you use a mouse, follow these steps:
  1. Click the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.
  2. Type Windows Update in the Search box.
  3. Click Settings, and then click Install optional updates.

Prerequisites

To apply this update, you must be running Windows 8, Windows RT or Windows Server 2012.

Registry information

To apply this update, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this update.

Update replacement information

This update does not replace a previously released update.

The dates and the times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). The dates and the times for these files on your local computer are displayed in your local time together with your current daylight saving time (DST) bias. Additionally, the dates and the times may change when you perform certain operations on the files.

  • GDR service branches contain only those fixes that are widely released to address widespread, critical issues. LDR service branches contain updates in addition to widely released fixes.
  • The MANIFEST files (.manifest) that are installed for each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows 8 and Windows RT" section. MANIFEST files and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are extremely important to maintain the state of the updated components. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
