Symptoms

Assume that you have a Windows 7-based or on a Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that is running the Server Message Block version 2 (SMB 2) protocol and that has remote clients. In this scenario, a Stop error 0x000000C2 in the Srv2.sys file may occur. Additionally, the SMB clients cannot obtain data from the SMB 2 server.

Cause

This problem occurs because the function that returns keys to access an internal database that contains file IDs starts returning bad keys.
