KB2864111 - FIX: It takes longer than expected to cancel an MDX query that contains many GROUP BY clauses in SSAS 2012 or SSAS 2014

Applies To
SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services

The fix also applies to Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Analysis Services (SSAS 2014).

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You run a Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) query in an instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services (SSAS 2012) or SQL Server 2014 Analysis Services (SSAS 2014). SSAS 2012 or SSAS 2014 is running in tabular mode.
  • The query contains more than three GROUP BY clauses.
  • You try to cancel the query.

In this scenario, it may take longer than expected for the query to stop running. Additionally, you may be unable to process data in SSAS 2012 or SSAS 2014, create new connections, or run other queries while the original query is still running.

Resolution

After you apply this hotfix, the time that is required to cancel a query is reduced. Additionally, this hotfix improves the performance of SSAS 2012 or SSAS 2014.
