Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a computer that runs Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
  • The computer has a single network adapter.
  • You configure a static IP address for this computer.
  • You select the Register this connection’s addresses in DNS check box in Advanced TCP/IP Settings to enable dynamic registration of DNS records.
  • You confirm that a static A record is registered on the DNS server.
  • You clear the Register this connection’s addresses in DNS checkbox. Then, you confirm that the A record is deleted on the DNS server.
  • You manually create a new A record for the same computer on the DNS server.

In this situation, the newly created A record will be deleted incorrectly after a period of time. The time is decided by the retry interval of the DNS zone.
