Summary

This article describes Hotfix Package 1 for Microsoft User Experience Virtualization 2.0 (UE-V2.0).

Note We recommend that you test hotfixes before you deploy them in a production environment. Because the builds are cumulative, each new hotfix release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous update package. We recommend that you consider applying the most recent fix release that contains the most necessary hotfixes.

This hotfix package fixes the following issue.

Consider the following scenario:
  • You deploy the Microsoft User Experience Virtualization 2.0 agent.
  • You have Microsoft Excel or another Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)-enabled program installed but have not started the program.
  • You open a file that is associated with that program.
In this scenario, the application starts, but no data is available. Additionally, you receive the following message:

There was a problem sending the command to the program.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, apply the hotfix package that is described in this section, and then restart the computer.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft Support. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

Note If additional issues occur or if any troubleshooting is required, you might have to create a separate service request. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for this specific hotfix. • Turn off DDE in the DDE-enabled application. For example, follow these steps in Excel:
    1. Open Excel Options, and then click Advanced.
    2. In the General section, click to select the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) check box.
    3. Click OK.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
