Symptoms

You cannot print multiple copies of a Microsoft Office Word 2007 document. If you type a value that is larger than one in the Number of copies box in the Printdialog box, only one copy is printed. This problem occurs if you are using any one of the following printers:

  • Brother 4500 ML Laser

  • Brother HL 960

  • Brother HL630

  • Brother HL640

  • Canon BJC-5100

  • Epson Stylus 600 Inkjet Color

  • Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 1200C

  • Hewlett-Packard 1600

  • Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 550C, 560C, 660C, 693C, 694C, 855C, or 870CSE when you are not using the latest printer driver

  • Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 5M, Standard

  • Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 5P when you are using the HPPCL5MS printer driver version G.1.20

  • Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 5Si

  • Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 6MP

  • Hewlett-Packard OfficeJet SERIES

  • NEC SilentWriter II model 90 PostScript when you are using the Microsoft Windows 95 printer driver

Cause

This problem occurs if one of the following conditions is true:

  • You are using a printer driver from Microsoft Windows 3.1 or from an earlier version of Windows.

  • The registry key that contains the Word 2007 settings is damaged.

  • The printer that you are using does not support multiple-copy print jobs.

Workaround

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation.

Method 1: Disable background printing

  1. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Word Options.

  2. Click Advanced. Then, under Print, click to clear the Print in backgroundcheck box.

  3. Click OK.

Method 2: Change the printer driver spool settings

  1. Click Start, and then click Printers and Faxes.

  2. Right-click the printer icon for the printer that you are using, and then click Properties.

  3. Click the Advancedtab, and then click to select Print directly to the printer.

  4. Click OK.

Method 3: Change the Graphics mode from vector to raster

Note The following steps may not apply to every printer. For steps that are specific to the printer that you are using, contact the printer manufacturer.

  1. Click Start, and then click Printers and Faxes.

  2. Right-click the printer icon for the printer that you are using, and then click Properties.

  3. Click the Graphicstab.

  4. Under Graphics mode, click Use Raster Graphics, click Apply, and then click OK.

Method 4: Add an extra page to the document

Sometimes you can print multiple copies by adding a blank page to the end of the document. To do this in Word 2007, follow these steps:

  1. Press CTRL+END to move to the end of the document.

  2. On the Inserttab, click Page Break in the Pages group.

Method 5: Upgrade third-party printer drivers

If you are using a third-party printer driver, contact the printer driver vendor to see whether an updated printer driver is available. If an updated printer is available, upgrade to that driver.

Method 6: Configure printer-specific settings

Use one of the following workarounds as appropriate.

Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 870CSE

  1. Click Start, and then click Printers and Faxes.

  2. Right-click the printer icon for Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 870CSE, and then click Properties.

  3. Click the Papertab.

  4. Click Ordered Printing.

    Note When you enable Ordered printing, you can print the pages from back to front.

  5. Click OKtwo times.

Epson Stylus 600 InkJet Color

  1. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Word Options.

  2. Click Advanced.

  3. Under Print, click Auto Sheetfeeder in the Default Traylist.

  4. Click OK.

Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 5P

If you are using a Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 5P printer that uses the Hppcl5ms.drv printer driver, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Printers and Faxes.

  2. Right-click the printer icon for the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 5P printer, and then click Properties.

  3. Click the Print Qualitytab.

  4. Under Graphics Mode, click Raster.

  5. Click OKtwo times.
