Article ID: 957453 - Last Review: September 17, 2008 - Revision: 1.0 FIX: When you install SQL Server 2008, the installation fails, and the "Attributes do not match" error message is logged in the Summary.txt file
Bug #: 50003401 (SQL Hotfix) Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release. SYMPTOMSWhen you install Microsoft SQL Server 2008, the installation fails. In the Summary.txt file, the following error message is logged: Microsoft.SqlServer.Chainer.Infrastructure.InputSettingValidationException Attributes do not match. Present attributes (Hidden, System, Directory, Archive), included attributes (0), excluded attributes (Archive, Compressed, Encrypted). <SQLInstallFolder>\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log CAUSEThis problem occurs because the SQL Server 2008 installation folder has the Archive attribute set. The Archive attribute is in the exclusion list that the SQL Server 2008 Setup program uses to validate the installation folder during the setup process. RESOLUTIONThe fix for this issue was first released in Cumulative Update 1.

WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, remove the Archive attribute from the installation folder. To do this, follow these steps:
C:\FolderA\FolderB\FolderC The FolderC folder does not exist. The FolderB folder has the Archive attribute set. In this situation, you must remove the Archive attribute from the FolderB folder.STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. MORE INFORMATIONThis hotfix is integrated into the Sqlsupport.msi package of Cumulative update package 1 for SQL Server 2008. After you install the Sqlsupport.msi package of Cumulative update package 1 for SQL Server 2008, you can start the installation of the release version of SQL Server 2008 without determining whether the installation folder has the Archive attribute set. If the installation folder has the Archive attribute set, the Archive attribute will be automatically removed.
