Some settings in Group Policy Preferences for Internet Explorer do not deploy correctly to computers that are running Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2
You configure the Group Policy Preferences for Internet Explorer in a domain environment.
In the Group Policy Management Editor, you click to select one or more of the following check boxes on the User Configuration\Preferences\Control Panel Settings\Internet Settings\Internet Explorer 7\Advanced tab or on the User Configuration\Preferences\Control Panel Settings\Internet Settings\Internet Explorer 8\Advanced tab :
Check boxes under Accessibility
"Reset text size to medium while zooming"
"Reset Zoom level to 100% for new windows and tabs"
Check boxes under Security
"Allow active content to run in files"
"Allow software to run or install even..."
Check boxes under International
"Send IDN Server Names"
"Send UTF -8 URL"
"Show information bar for encoded address"
You apply these settings to some computers that are running Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
In this scenario, these Group Policy configurations are not deployed to client computers successfully.
For example, under Security in the Internet Explorer Group Policy Preferences, you click to select the "Allow active content to run in files" check box. However, in the Internet Explorer Preferences on the client-side, this check box is not selected after the policy is applied to the client.
Symptom 2
Consider the following scenario:
You configure the Group Policy Preferences for Internet Explorer in a domain environment.
In the Group Policy Management Editor, you double-click to edit the same policy setting again.
In this scenario, the GPME window freezes and crashes. You cannot make any changes.
To resolve the issue, install this hotfix on computers that have the Group Policy Management Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in installed.

Service Pack 1 is integrated into the release version of Windows Server 2008. Therefore, RTM milestone files apply only to Windows Vista. RTM milestone files have a 6.0.0000.xxxxx version number.
The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows Server 2008 and for Windows Vista" section. Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 file information notes
Important Windows 7 hotfixes and Windows Server 2008 R2 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, hotfixes on the Hotfix Request page are listed under both operating systems. To request the hotfix package that applies to one or both operating systems, select the hotfix that is listed under "Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2" on the page. Always refer to the "Applies To" section in articles to determine the actual operating system that each hotfix applies to.
The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows Server 2008 R2 and for Windows 7" section. MUM and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are extremely important to maintain the state of the updated components.
