SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install the Terminal Services role on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008. Or, you install the Remote Desktop Services role on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You configure a Terminal Services RemoteApp (TS RemoteApp) application on the terminal server. This application supports the Remote Applications Integrated Locally (RAIL) feature.
  • You connect to the TS RemoteApp application from a remote client that is running Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Server 2008 R2.
In this scenario, some pop-up windows of the TS RemoteApp application may be hidden, and the application seems to stop responding on the remote client.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Rdpshell.exe does not transmit some parent window change information to the Remote Desktop Connection program (Mstsc.exe).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install this hotfix on both the server and on the clients.

Hotfix information

To apply this hotfix, you must be running one of the following operating systems:
