Summary

The Skype for Business standalone client replaces the Skype for Business basic client. It's the full version of the Skype for Business Windows desktop client. The standalone client is intended for use by customers with or without a Microsoft 365 Office license.

For customers who already use a Microsoft Office 365 subscription, or the 2024 or 2019 Long-Term Support (LTS) version of Office, the new standalone installer automatically installs the Skype for Business client that matches their version of Microsoft Office.

By default, if a customer doesn't have any Microsoft Office licenses, the standalone installer installs the latest Skype for Business Subscription Edition client.
