Web Remix in Microsoft Edge lets you customize how a webpage appears using a simple prompt.
You can use Web Remix to:
- Simplify a long article for easier reading
- Add a summary to a detailed page
- Turn a recipe into a shopping list
- Convert prices to your local currency
- Update the appearance of a webpage
A Remix is generated in real time and applies only to your view of the page.
You are in control of Web Remix. Web Remix is applied only when you choose to create it and includes built-in safeguards.
How Web Remix works
Web Remix runs locally on your device and applies to the page you’re viewing.
- A Remix changes only your view of the page during your browser session.
- It doesn’t modify the original website or content on the publisher’s servers.
- Other people don’t see your Remix.
Web Remix is similar to features like Reading mode, dark mode, or browser extensions.
A Remix doesn't republish, redistribute, or host website content. It reorganizes and restyles the page that is already loaded on your device for your personal use.
Using Web Remix
Use Web Remix to customize how a webpage appears in Microsoft Edge.
On a supported website, select the Remix icon in the address bar.
Choose one of the following options:
Appearance
Turn on Dark mode
Change the background color
Adjust font style and size
Custom
Enter a custom prompt to modify the page. For example:
- "Show only the recipe steps"
- "Convert all prices to euros"
You can apply a Remix to an entire website (domain) or to individual pages.
A Remix applies only to your browser on your device. You control when to use it.
What data Web Remix use
The data used depends on the type of Remix you create.
Appearance Remix
An Appearance Remix runs locally on your device. No page data is sent to Microsoft.
Custom Remix
Microsoft Edge uses the following information to generate the Remix:
- The page URL and domain
- Content from the webpage
- Your prompt or request
This data is used only to generate the requested Remix. After the request is fulfilled, the data is discarded from Microsoft servers. The resulting Remix is stored locally on your device.
Data and privacy
Your privacy and trust are paramount to us. Microsoft will only use your custom remix prompts for the limited purposes explained in the Microsoft Privacy Statement to troubleshoot problems, diagnose bugs, prevent abuse, and to monitor, analyze, and improve performance.
To help protect your privacy:
No access to sensitive browser data: A Remix doesn't access saved passwords, autofill data, or payment information.
No model training: Content processed to generate a Remix isn’t used to train AI models.
Local, per-user changes: A Remix applies only to your browser session on your device.
Custom remixes: use AI to generate webpage customizations based on your request. This feature is experimental, and remixed pages can be inaccurate or unstable.
Important
Don’t use Web Remix with confidential or sensitive personal information. This includes data that could reveal your identity or personal characteristics, such as financial, health, or other private details.
Safety and guardrails
Web Remix follow Microsoft Edge safety systems and content policies.
- Some requests, websites, or content types might be limited or unavailable based on Microsoft policies and safety safeguards. In some cases, certain websites might not support Web Remix, some requests might be blocked, or complex requests might not produce the expected results.
- Results can vary depending on the page and scenario.
Availability
Remix is designed for consumer use and requires you to sign in with a Microsoft account. The feature is currently in a limited external experiment targeted in Edge Beta and is not yet broadly available in other versions of Microsoft Edge. Availability and individual scenarios may vary as we expand.
