Use these steps when export is stuck, fails, slow, or missing.
Before you export
- Keep the original video, audio, and image files available in case Clipchamp asks you to relink them.
- Close unused apps, browser tabs, and windows.
- Check free disk space.
- Update Chrome, Edge, or the Clipchamp Windows app.
- Choose the smallest resolution that works. Higher resolutions take longer and create larger files. See How to choose the right export resolution.
If export is stuck at 0% or frozen
- Keep Clipchamp in the foreground. Do not switch tabs or windows during export.
- Wait a few minutes for long, 4K, or clip-heavy projects.
- Close other apps and tabs, then export again.
- In a browser, avoid incognito or InPrivate mode.
- Turn off browser extensions, then reload and retry.
- Clear cached images and files in Chrome or Edge, restart the browser, and retry.
- In the Windows app, restart Clipchamp. If it still fails, try Chrome or Edge.
- If export freezes at the same point, copy the project, remove or replace media near that point, and export again.
If export fails near the end
- Check free disk space, then retry.
- Export at a lower resolution, such as 720p or 1080p instead of 4K.
- Compress or convert large source videos to MP4, replace them, and retry.
- Split long projects into copied sections. Export each section to find the failing area.
- Replace or disconnect assets in the failing section.
- Update your graphics driver and operating system, or try another computer with the original media files.
If the downloaded file will not play
- Confirm export finished before opening the file.
- Check the file size. If it is 0 KB or much smaller than expected, export again.
- Try another media player or destination platform.
- Export at a lower resolution.
- If playback fails in one section, replace or convert that source media and retry.
If there is no download prompt or you cannot find the file
- Check Downloads first.
- If prompted, save to a local folder such as Downloads or Desktop.
- Allow Clipchamp downloads or pop-ups in your browser, then export again.
- For work or school accounts, check the project's Exports folder in OneDrive or SharePoint unless you chose another location.
- In the Windows app, choose another save folder or check Clipchamp's storage permission in Windows settings.
- If you use a sharing integration, also save a local copy when available.
If export is very slow
- Keep Clipchamp in the foreground and close unused apps or tabs.
- Lower the resolution if you do not need the largest file. See How to choose the right export resolution.
- Shorten the project, split it into sections, or replace very large source files with compressed MP4 versions.
- Update your browser, operating system, and graphics driver.
- In Clipchamp for personal accounts, go to Settings > Export and turn off hardware acceleration if export problems continue.
More advanced browser fixes
Try these only if the earlier steps did not help.
- Reset Chrome or Edge flags, then restart the browser.
- Reset Chrome or Edge settings. You might need to sign in again.
- Repair Microsoft Edge from Windows Settings.
- Temporarily disable third-party antivirus software. Keep built-in protection on.
- Revert CPU overclocking settings, if you changed them.
