Note

The tutorial steps in this article are for the Clipchamp video editor for personal accounts. The same principles apply to Clipchamp for work and school.

When you add an image to the timeline, the default duration is set to four seconds. You can easily edit the duration of your image to become shorter or longer using these two options below.

Option 1. Drag the asset handles left and right

To increase or decrease the duration of your image, you can use the trim handles.

  1. Click on the image asset in the timeline so it's highlighted.
  2. Drag the asset's trim handles to adjust the length - right to increase, or left to decrease.
  3. Use the timestamp at the top of the timeline as a duration guide.
  4. For more precise adjustments, click the zoom in button on the timeline to increase the scale of your timestamps.

Option 2. Trim the length of your image using the split tool

To decrease the duration of your image, you can also use the split tool

  1. Using the timestamp at the top of the timeline as a reference, drag the seeker to the exact duration you'd like your image to be.
  2. Right-click the image asset on the timeline so it's highlighted, then click the split button. Your image will now be split into two clips on the timeline.
  3. Select the split image asset you no longer need.
  4. Click the backspace button or delete button on your keyboard to remove it. Your image will now be shorter on the timeline.

Option 3. Change the duration of multiple images at once

If you added several images to the timeline, you can adjust their duration together using multi-item editing.

  1. Hold down the shift key on your keyboard (both Mac and Windows users), then click on all of the images on the timeline that you would like to adjust.
  2. Once all of the images are highlighted, let go of the shift key.
  3. Drag the trim handles on one of the selected images - right to increase the duration, or left to decrease it. The other selected images get trimmed at the same time.
  4. For more precise adjustments, click the zoom in button on the timeline to increase the scale of your timestamps.

If gaps appear between your images after adjusting their duration, see: How to remove gaps on the timeline.

Note

The default duration of four seconds gets applied to every image you add to the timeline and can't be set to a different default value. There is also no option to type an exact duration for several images at once - use the trim handles as described above.
