Create a custom template library
Why create a custom template library?
A template library helps you adjust documentation for different clinical needs. You can create multiple templates for any of the six supported note sections and select the one that best fits the encounter. Examples include:
- Encounter type variations: Build separate templates for acute visits, follow‑ups, annual exams, or post‑procedure check‑ins within a note section.
- Condition‑specific templates: Create versions within a note section for conditions you frequently manage, such as diabetes follow‑ups, COPD exacerbations, or pediatric well‑checks.
- Population‑specific templates: Tailor a note section with a template for groups like geriatrics, pediatrics, prenatal care, or behavioral‑health visits.
- Procedure‑ or workflow‑specific templates: Build templates for encounters involving defined steps, such as wound care, device checks, infusion reactions, medication teaching, or discharge counseling.
- Documentation style differences: Include options that reflect your preferred level of detail. For example, use a concise version for high‑volume shifts and a more detailed version for comprehensive assessments.
- Department‑driven requirements: Align templates with departmental or organizational expectations to ensure consistent phrasing or required elements (for example, oncology symptom scoring, orthopedic exam components, hospital guidelines).
Steps to add a customizable template to the library
Go to the Settings menu (A) and then choose Library (B).
Select Customizable templates.
Select New item at the bottom of the screen.
Fill in the required sections: (A) Enter the name for the custom template. (B) Choose the appropriate note section for the template from the drop-down list. (C) The name you entered in Step A automatically appears in the Spoken Form field. The spoken form is the voice command you use to invoke the template. Edit if desired. (D) Enter a brief description of the template. (This step is optional.)
(E) Type or copy and paste the desired content of the custom template in the Content field. (F) Select Save.
You can enter as many custom templates as you'd like for each of the six sections. For optimal results, don't exceed 8,000 characters for each custom template.
