KB4469349 - FIX: VSS backup fails in SQL Server 2008 after you install CU10 for SQL Server 2016 SP1 in the same virtual machine

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You run Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and 2016 on the same virtual machine.
  • You install Cumulative Update 10 (CU10) for SQL Server 2016 SP1.
  • You try to use Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS)-based applications to back up the database in Microsoft SQL Server 2008.

In this scenario, you may notice VSS application fails to make a backup, and you may receive an error message that resembles the following:

Native Error: 208 Error state: 1, Severity: 16
Error message: Invalid object name 'master.sys.availability_replicas'.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in the following cumulative update for SQL Server:
