KB2897454 - FIX: Insufficient system memory error occurs when you try to create an index in a char, varchar, or nvarchar type column in SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2014

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a large partitioned table in Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2014.
  • The table contains a char, varchar, or nvarchar type column.
  • You try to create an index in the column.

In this scenario, you cannot create the index, and you receive the following error message:

Msg 701, Level 17, State 123, Line 2
There is insufficient system memory in resource pool 'default' to run this query.

Resolution

The issue was first fixed in the following cumulative update of SQL Server.
