Applies To
Teams Microsoft Teams personal

Microsoft Teams Free can transcribe real-time captions in meetings. For accessibility, Teams Free also allows users to keep live captions on and remove profane words.

How to show or hide live captions

Enabling live captions allows you to read the words that are spoken during calls and meetings in Microsoft Teams Free.

  1. At the top of the screen, select More actions Microsoft Teams more options icon .
  2. Select Language and speech Teams Community language and speech .
  3. Select Show live captions.

Follow the same steps to turn off live captions by selecting Hide live captions.

More options for live captions

  1. During a call or meeting, select More actions More options button > Settings Teams settings button .
  2. Select Accessibility Teams accessibility options button .
  3. Under Captions, you can toggle on or off:
    • Always show captions in my meetings. You'll receive a notification showing your set language. Live captions will then be shown towards the bottom of the call screen and will only be visible to you.
    • Filter profane words in Live Captions.

Note

The audio call data will be processed by Microsoft Speech Services to transcribe the spoken language. Live captions enable users who are not able to hear the speech to participate more fully in Teams calls and meetings. To support those users, Teams does not provide an option to disable live captions.
