In Microsoft Teams, there are different ways to find, store, and share files.

Open a file and work with others

In a chat or channel, select a file to open it in Teams.

  • Next to the file, select More attachment options Microsoft Teams more options icon to open the file in your browser, download it, or copy a link to it.

In Teams, you can work on a file with your teammates for real-time collaboration.

Turn a file into a tab

  • Go to the file you want and select More attachment options Microsoft Teams more options icon> Make this a tab.

View and upload files in a channel

To view and upload a file in a channel:

  1. Select Teams Teams button in Teams.

  2. Choose the channel you want to view or upload files in.

  3. Select the Files tab.

  • Select Upload to add a file or folder to the channel. A copy will appear in your Files tab, where anyone in the channel can access it.

  • To pin a file to the top of the list, hover over the file and select More actions Microsoft Teams more options icon> Pin to top.

Share a file from a channel

  1. Select Teams Teams button in Teams.

  2. Select the channel you want to share a file from.

  3. Find the file you want to share and select Copy link Insert Link button to create a link.

    • Select Settings  Settings button to change who can open the link, edit the file, and more. Then, select Apply.

  4. Paste the link into a chat or post to share it.
