Dictation best practices

Follow these best practices for better results in your documentation.

  • Start dictating after you turn on the microphone and stop dictating before you shut it off to avoid clipping.

  • Pause briefly before and after saying commands to ensure they are recognized.

  • Speak in full sentences, including punctuation.

  • Hold the microphone in your non-dominant hand so you can operate your mouse while dictating.

  • Press and hold the red talk button to dictate.

  • Release the talk button to stop. Dragon cannot hear you if the microphone is off.

  • Remember to hold the button until you are finished dictating or you may experience clipping.

  • Position the microphone just below your mouth and approximately 3-5 fingers or 5 cm away from your chin.

  • Select the microphone icon on the DragonBar to talk (the microphone turns green and the icon spins when Dragon is listening).

  • Select the microphone icon again to stop recording.

Manage your vocabulary
