Dictation Box
Use the command "open dictation box" or "close dictation box" to open/close the dictation box. Use the following icons when the Dictation Box is open:
Note: This does not remove the text from where you moved it.
 Discard text: Deletes the content of the Dictation Box.

Dictation best practices
Follow these best practices for better results in your documentation.

Start dictating after you turn on the microphone and stop dictating before you shut it off to avoid clipping.

Pause briefly before and after saying commands to ensure they are recognized.

Speak in full sentences, including punctuation.

Hold the microphone in your non-dominant hand so you can operate your mouse while dictating.

Press and hold the red talk button to dictate.
-
Release the talk button to stop. Dragon cannot hear you if the microphone is off.

Remember to hold the button until you are finished dictating or you may experience clipping.

Position the microphone just below your mouth and approximately 3-5 fingers or 5 cm away from your chin.

Select the microphone icon on the DragonBar to talk (the microphone turns green and the icon spins when Dragon is listening).

Select the microphone icon again to stop recording.
Manage your vocabulary

Say Add word or Add that to vocabulary.
-
Type the correct spelling.
-
Select Default Pronunciation or select the microphone icon to train a word.
Note: It is not necessary to press the talk button on your PowerMic to train a word.

Say Manage vocabulary > search for the word/phrase to change/train > correct as needed.

Select + to add a new word/phrase.
Templates (Auto-texts)
Create Auto-texts to insert blocks of text or templates with a voice command.
-
Highlight the desired text in your document.
-
Say Make that an Auto-text.
-
Enter a Name for your Auto-text.
-
Confirm the Spoken form (what you will say to insert the template).
-
Select Save.
-
Next/previous field (moves to next/previous variable in your template)
-
First/last field (moves to first/last variable in your template)
-
Accept defaults (clears all brackets and accepts ALL default text)
-
Field complete (removes brackets and accepts the text only in the CURRENT variable field)
Custom commands (Step-by-step commands)
Step-by-step commands can execute commonly-used keystrokes and actions on your desktop.

Say Manage commands or Manage Step-by-step commands.
-
Select +.
-
Enter a Name for your command.
-
Enter a Description (optional).
-
Enter a Spoken form (this is what you'll say to activate the command).

Select New Step and select a step type; repeat for each step/keyboard shortcut.

Select Apply All then Close.
-
Say Manage commands or Manage Step-by-step commands.​​​​​​​

Select the Step-by-step command you want to edit.
-
Make desired changes.
-
Select Apply All, then Close when you have made all your changes.

Say Manage commands or Manage Step-by-step commands.
-
Select the Step-by-step command(s) you want to delete.
-
Select X.
-
Select Apply All, then Close when you have made all your changes.
Important reminders
-
Remember to turn off the microphone when you are finished dictating.
-
Correct commonly misrecognized words to increase accuracy and save time.
-
Position the cursor where you want your text to go...your text will be typed in the window in which your cursor is blinking.

Select Microphone from the DragonBar menu to quickly change microphones without logging off.
-
Access Log Off and Exit from the DragonBar menu.
-
Select Log Off to change specialty or language.
-
Select Exit when finished at a workstation to protect your profile from being accessed by other clinicians.
