Autofill on Microsoft Authenticator was discontinued in mid-August 2025 as part of Microsoft's efforts to streamline autofill.

Although your saved passwords and addresses are no longer accessible in Authenticator, you can still use , view and manage saved passwords easily across devices in Microsoft Edge. 

When did the Authenticator autofill changes happen?​​​​​​​

  • In May 2025, app notifications were shown, informing users of the change.

  • In June 2025, the ability to Add or Import  new passwords in the Authenticator App stopped.

  • In July 2025, the ability to autofill with Authenticator stopped.

  • In mid-August 2025, saved personal information of users became no longer accessible in Authenticator.

What has happened to saved data in Authenticator?

  • Passwords and Addresses: These are securely synced to your Microsoft account and remain accessible via Microsoft Edge. Generated password history was not retained.

  • Payment Information: For security reasons, payment info stored in Authenticator has been deleted and is no longer accessible.

Are saved passkeys still in Microsoft Authenticator?

Yes. Microsoft Authenticator continues to support Entra passkeys. 

Important: If you’ve set up passkeys for your work or school account, ensure that Authenticator remains enabled as your passkey provider in iOS/Android settings. Disabling Authenticator as a passkey provider will also disable your passkeys. 

How can I use Microsoft Edge to autofill?

To use autofill with Microsoft Edge, you will need to follow the steps below to enable Edge as your autofill provider.

  1. Download Microsoft Edge on your mobile device.Download

  2. Open Edge and sign in with your Microsoft account.

  3. Go to phone Settings and select General.

  4. Select Autofill & Passwords.

  5. Under the "Autofill from" section, select Edge as your password manager.

How do I access my passwords in Microsoft Edge?

  1. On a mobile device, open Edge and tap on the menu icon

  2. Tap  Settings then  Passwords.

How do I export passwords from Edge to another autofill provider?

If you prefer to use a different provider (such as Google Password Manager or iCloud Keychain), set it as your default autofill provider in your phone settings. Once done, you’ll need to:

  • Export your saved passwords from Edge. Learn how.
